    coffee cake

There was a time when we had more time, and dropping in and saying hello to friends and neighbours was a regular occasion. Sadly “coffee mornings” as we knew them feature less in our lives. But when we do get to sit down with our friends and family for a good catch up, there is nothing quite like coffee cake to compliment the conversation. A delicious sweet treat that goes down well with tea, coffee and friends.

Our baker Eoin Jenkinson has devised a wholemeal coffee cake recipe which we hope you will try, then its up to you to invite your friends for a good chin wag!

    Plum and Blueberry Upside-Down Cake

Kilkenny is known for the clash of the ash, but we think it can safely be said it also takes the honour of being the Cat’s Meow when it comes to baking too! This year’s Little Mill / Savour Kilkenny baking competition was the biggest ever. We called on the young people of Kilkenny to give us a clash of cakes and that is certainly what we got! by Kathy Purcell

Bill Mosse, Siobhan Sugrue Donhoe and Niamh Holden

It’s quite an honour to live in a county where there are so many people and places of interest. That is why we are very big fans of the programme Kilkenny County Matters on Irish TV. Each week host Siobhan Sugrue Donohoe goes on her travels to search out the hidden and not so hidden gems in our lovely county. We were delighted that they paid a visit to us here at The Little Mill. Siobhan mentioned she hadn’t made bread for quite a while, so that was something we wanted to rectify. We thought it only fitting that we would begin at the beginning, showing her how we make our traditionally stoneground wholemeal flours.
