  • Share the Love - We have a winner!

    by Kathy Purcell

    Share the love

The sense of smell is closely linked with memory, probably more so than any of our other senses. In addition to being the sense most closely linked to memory, smell is also highly emotive. We all know the therapeutic effect that baking has on us, the ritual of mixing, the smell of the baking. What better subject to ignite the creative writing juices than memories of baking! The winner of our “Share the love” writing competition is Deirdre O’Brien who shared with us her lovely story of baking with her Grandmother. We hope you enjoy!

    by Kathy Purcell

    Wholemeal Chocolate Cake

Valentines, for some the most romantic day of the year, for others a cynical marketing ploy on behalf of greeting card companies. We had 65 entries and the standard was way beyond anything we could have imagined. The judges job was extremely difficult, and although the task wasn’t easy, an overall winner under each age category was chosen (under 18 & under 12) plus a number of runner up cakes. We would like to share with you the recipes from the winning entries over the next couple of weeks. So here you go, first up Louisa Bedrani’s Plum and Blueberry Upside - Down Cake.
